Hey There,

What a week this has been! We’ve hit a milestone together—over 2000 of you have joined this little corner of the internet where we celebrate colour, confidence, and creating homes that feel like you. I’m honestly so humbled by your trust and enthusiasm. It’s proof that colour is more than just paint on walls—it’s a way to express who we are, how we feel, and how we want to live.

And there was just that small matter of my book launch. Still pinching myself about that!

To celebrate this huge week, I wanted to dive into something that’s been making waves in the interiors world lately: Colour Drenching. If you’ve been scrolling through Instagram or flipping through interiors magazines, you’ve probably noticed it too—rooms drenched in a single, glorious hue that seem to wrap you in their magic. But what exactly is colour drenching? Why does it feel so transformative? And how can you try it at home without feeling overwhelmed?

Let’s explore it together.

My husband Sam was looking at the stats the other day, and you can see this explosion of interest in Colour Drenching growing from 2023 with no signs of slowing down.

It’s not just us talking about it—colour drenching has been crowned the interiors trend of Spring 2025 by Vogue! You can read their article here, with some excellent comments from award-winning interior designers. And if it's good enough for Vogue!

I also love the references Homes & Gardens have highlighted in their article. Seriously, if you are in doubt about this trend, check their examples. Stunning.

Interior Designers are raving about its ability to make small spaces feel expansive (a lifesaver for city living) and even giving rise to niche trends like “tile drenching” in bathrooms (see this article in Country Living). It’s everywhere—and for good reason!

What Is Colour Drenching?

At its core, colour drenching is all about committing to one colour and letting it take over a space. Walls, ceilings, trim, mouldings—even furniture and fixtures—all bathed in the same shade. It’s bold, immersive, and completely transformative.

Unlike the accent wall trend (remember those?), which uses colour as a focal point, colour drenching creates an all-encompassing experience. It eliminates contrasts and edges, making the space feel unified and harmonious. Think of it as stepping into a room where every surface whispers the same story—it’s powerful yet soothing all at once.

Why Does It Work? The Psychology of Colour Immersion

Colour isn’t just visual; it’s emotional. When you step into a colour-drenched room, your brain processes it as an environment rather than individual elements. Here’s what happens:

  • Sensory Unification: By removing visual breaks between walls and ceilings, your brain perceives the space as one cohesive whole. This can feel incredibly calming in our overstimulated world.

  • Emotional Amplification: The chosen hue becomes more than just a colour—it becomes an atmosphere. A soft sage green feels like stepping into nature; a deep navy wraps you in sophistication and calm.

  • Altered Spatial Perception: Without contrasting colours to define boundaries, spaces can feel larger and more expansive. Dark colours, in particular, make edges recede, creating depth and flow.

Where Should You Try It?

Not every room is ideal for colour drenching (we’ll get to that), but here are some spaces where it truly shines:

  • Bedrooms: Create a cocooning effect for ultimate relaxation.

  • Bathrooms: Perfect for smaller spaces where cohesion enhances serenity (hello, spa vibes!).

  • Living Rooms: Add drama or warmth depending on your chosen hue.

  • Hallways: Transitional spaces benefit from the seamless flow that colour drenching provides.

How to Get It Right

If you’re ready to take the plunge (pun intended!), here are my top tips:

  1. Choose Your Colour Wisely: Let the room’s function guide your choice.

    • Restful spaces? Opt for soft blues or earthy pinks.

    • Social areas? Warm tones like terracotta or mustard work wonders.

    • Productive zones? Muted greens or blues promote focus without overstimulation.

  2. Play with Finishes: Use matte for walls and satin or eggshell for trims to create subtle depth without breaking the monochrome effect.

  3. Layer Textures: Add cushions, throws, or rugs in similar tones but different materials—think velvet against linen or wool.

  4. Introduce Contrast Thoughtfully: Metallics (like brass or chrome), natural wood tones, or small pops of complementary colours can keep things dynamic without disrupting the harmony.

  5. Start Small: If a whole room feels daunting, try drenching a smaller space first—a bathroom or hallway is perfect for experimenting.

Your Concerns Addressed

I get it, you may be nervous about colour drenching. I am getting so many questions about this in my inbox at the moment so I thought I would address the most common questions…

“Won’t it make my room feel smaller?” Actually, no! Colour drenching often makes rooms feel larger by eliminating visual breaks that define boundaries.

“Isn’t it overwhelming?” The key is choosing the right intensity for your comfort level—soft tones create subtle immersion while bold hues make dramatic statements.

“When should I avoid it?” Rooms with standout architectural details you want to highlight a more traditional approach might work better (but this isn’t always the case - I do love colour drenching here too!)

And always always ALWAYS sample your paint colours. You need to find the right shade that will work for your personal space.

Hitting 2000 subscribers feels like such a milestone because it means there are 2000 homes out there being transformed with intention and joy—and I’m so thrilled to be part of your journey! If you’re feeling inspired to try colour drenching (or just want to chat about your next project), just DM me on Instagram—I’d love to hear from you!

And for some inspiration, here’s my pinterest board (I add pins all the time so give me a follow!)

Until next Sunday,
