Hello,
This week, I want to talk about something my community ask me about all the time: how to choose art for your home.
As someone who trained as a professional artist, this is so close to my heart. Art is the most personal, joyful way to bring your story and your personality into your home.
Our walls are big blank canvases just waiting for you to fill them with things that make your heart sing. Art, mirrors, pictures—they help your eye travel through the room and make every space feel more alive. But it’s not just decoration—it’s a memory, a mood, a spark of joy every time you walk into the room. Love it.

Art as your colour starting point
If you’re renting, art is the easiest way to bring in colour and make a space feel like you. Even if you own your home, it’s the perfect place to start when you’re stuck for a colour palette.
Here’s my secret: when you find a piece of art that makes you feel something—whether it’s a memory, a colour that sings, or just a style that feels right—use that as your anchor.
How to pull a colour palette from art
Don’t worry, you don’t need to match your sofa to the exact teal of a painted sea. Instead, look at the artwork and pull out the main colours—the ones that stand out or make you happy..
Then, play with tones: go lighter, go darker, and use those shades as inspiration for your walls, cushions, or even a rug. This creates a room that feels cohesive and harmonious, without being too matchy-matchy.
Playing with scale and placement
Let’s bust a myth: small rooms do not need small art! In fact, a big, bold piece in a little hallway or a small bedroom can be utterly transformative. It draws the eye, adds drama, and makes the space feel more generous.
Don’t be afraid to group art together either—little clusters of three or a gallery wall can be so playful and personal. Art is your chance to break the rules and have fun with proportion and placement.
Art tells your story
Every piece of art in my home has a story. I’m actually writing to you from my bed, feeling a little under the weather, looking at one of my favourite pieces of all time. It’s a seascape that Sam and I picked up in Cornwall (see the photo above). It’s art that lifts my spirits—proof that the right artwork really does change how a room (and a person!) feels.
All the art in our home has a similar feel and style to it. It’s playful and quite childlike, like Sam and I. It’s also so colourful but has a softness to it. It’s just what we love, are drawn to, and what brings us joy.
My sister’s and my mum’s homes are filled with art that feels completely different, and that’s the point. Don’t choose art because you think you should—choose what brings you joy. Your home should inspire happiness, whatever that looks like for you.
Don’t forget sculptures! They add movement and another layer of interest. We have a few dotted around of home and are a fun way to play with scale too.

My Little Black Book: Where I Find My Art
So many of you ask where I get my art from. Here’s my personal list of artists and galleries I adore:
Artists I Love
Emily Powell – Her work is pure joy. I have one of her pieces in Zac’s bedroom (in the photo below), and it brings such energy to the space.
Elizabeth Power – I have Elizabeth’s deck chairs in my living room. Her use of colour is so clever and uplifting.
Zieta Studio – I’ve just added their big chrome donut to my collection. Seriously obsessed. It’s a showstopper and brings that reflective, sculptural edge that’s so on trend for 2025 and 2026
Ciao Chiara Dreamy, whimsical, and full of personality.
Studio Lenca A true original. If you want something with presence, look no further.
Galleries I Love
Enter Gallery – Check out Slim Aarons and Bonnie and Clyde here. Such a fun mix.
Blue Shop Galleries - Always fresh, always inspiring.
Interrupted Art – I love their concept: you can even rent art to try before you commit!
Affordable Prints
Wall of Art – THE BEST for prints and their framing is just as gorgeous.

What’s on your walls? Does it make you smile? If not, let’s change that. Your home is your story—let’s make it a colourful one.
With all my love (and a mug of tea in hand),
Tash xx
