Hi lovely,

Something I’ve been doing a lot with clients lately is shifting the conversation away from paint charts and fabric swatches—at least for the first fifteen minutes! Instead, I ask a different question:

How do you want to feel in this room?

It’s such a simple exercise, but it’s honestly transformative. Before we talk about colours or finishes, I want to know about the special moments that will make this space sing for you.

What are the little rituals or routines that bring you joy? How do you see yourself using this room when it’s at its best?

If you’re about to design or decorate a room, I want you to try this too. Don’t rush to pick a wall colour or a sofa. Instead, go and sit in the space. Breathe it in. Let it speak to you.

Ask yourself:

  • What do I need from this room emotionally?

  • What moments matter to me here?

  • When does this space feel most like home?

For your kitchen, maybe it’s that first cup of coffee in the quiet of the morning, before the house wakes up.

For your living room, maybe it’s curling up with a bowl of pasta and your favourite film, fire glowing, feeling safe and snug.

For your bedroom, maybe it’s that sigh of relief at the end of the day—lights low, everything soft, still, and yours.

These feelings—not trends—are what should shape your space. Because your home isn’t just a project. It’s a story. And colour is how we tell it.

A Personal Story

When Sam (my husband) was building Lick, it was full-on. Long days, big decisions, constant pressure. I could see how much he was carrying—and I realised just how important our home had become.

It wasn’t just a place to crash after work. It was the one space where he could properly switch off, feel calm, and reconnect with himself. The colours, the light, the feeling—it all played a part.

That time taught me something I now truly believe: your environment has the power to support your wellbeing, without you even realising it. And that’s why I care so deeply about helping people create homes that feel as good as they look.

That’s the power of home.

That’s why, when I work with clients, I always begin here. Not with colour charts, but with real life. With understanding you—your routines, your rhythms, your emotions.

Below, you’ll find a selection of inspiring images that capture different moods in bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and dining spaces. Take a moment to scroll through and notice what catches your eye. Are you drawn to bright, airy calm? Do you love the drama of moody tones, or does a playful pop of colour make you smile? Let these images help you discover the feeling you want to create in your own home.

Bedroom Inspiration: One Room, So Many Feelings

Your bedroom is your private retreat—a place to rest, recharge, and be yourself. Whether you want soft, soothing tones or a bold, energising palette, this room is about how you want to feel at the start and end of each day. Think about the mood that helps you relax and wake refreshed, then let that guide your colour and styling choices.

Living Room: Setting the Mood for Connection

How do you want your living room to feel? Is it your spot for winding down after a long day, hosting friends for a glass of wine, or sprawling out for a Sunday afternoon nap? The living room is where we gather, relax, and reconnect—so let’s make sure it feels just right for your favourite moments.

Kitchen: The Heartbeat of the Home

When it comes to the kitchen, I always ask: what’s the moment here that makes it feel like home? Is it that first quiet coffee before the house wakes up, or the chaos of family dinners and homework at the table? The kitchen sets the rhythm for your day—so let’s design it to support the way you truly live.

Dining Room: Where Memories Are Made

Whether it’s for lively dinner parties, slow Sunday breakfasts, or simply a space to pause and catch up, this room is all about bringing people together. Think about the moments that matter most to you—and let’s create a dining space that celebrates them.

So, if you’re about to start a new project, remember:

Start with the feeling.

Let your home tell your story—one room, one moment, one colour at a time.

With love,
Tash
