Today’s newsletter is a special one—a house tour that’s very close to my heart.
I’ve helped thousands of people unlock the magic of colour in their homes—over 5,000 consultations and 10,000+ hours of talking, testing, and transforming spaces. But every so often, a project comes along that really encapsulates what I believe about colour: that it’s deeply personal, and that your home should be a true reflection of you.
I know that sometimes, advice can feel a bit abstract until you see it in action.
This week, I want to take you inside the home of my dear friend Amira. If you’ve read my book Master The Art of Colour, you might recognise her space—but today, I want to share some behind-the-scenes details and extra insights just for you.
That’s why I’m opening the doors (virtually!) to homes I’ve worked on, so you can see how colour choices come together in real spaces, with real quirks, challenges, and personalities. My hope is that by seeing how someone else’s story unfolds in their home, you’ll feel inspired—and maybe even a little braver—when it comes to creating your own dream space. There’s nothing quite like seeing colour work its magic in a real home, and I want you to feel that spark of possibility for yourself.

Amira’s Home
Amira is one of the warmest, most generous souls I know. Her home—once a bland, converted Victorian sweet shop in London—is now a vibrant, layered sanctuary, filled with treasures from her travels and memories from every chapter of her life. She’s an editor by trade, and you can see her curatorial eye in every corner.
Her editor’s eye shines through in the way she curates her space, using an archive of samples collected over the years to inspire her.
“I really relished the challenge of turning this previously bland home into a space that perfectly suits my needs - it’s such a fun retreat and a place I love spending time in. I love blending different eras, materials and colours to create design schemes that tell a story” Amira.
The Layout
Let me walk you through the space, so you can picture it:
Ground floor: Open plan, with a living room at the front, kitchen in the middle, and dining/social space at the back that opens onto a small garden.
First floor: Guest bedroom, main bathroom, and home office.
Loft: Amira’s bedroom suite, ensuite, and storage.
It’s a layout many of you might recognise—long, a bit quirky, and full of potential.
The Colour Palette: Why It Works
Just like all my clients, I wanted Amira to really consider the house, how she lives, her routine and the feeling she wanted to convey in her dream home.
Initially using Pinterest and photos that she was drawn to, we started to build a calming colour palette that had a sense of warmth.
She wanted to reflect her passion for the colours and culture of the Mediterranean so she was drawn to the warmer, earthier tones of taupes and beiges alongside greens and teals, reminiscent of the sea.
These colours also needed to work with the Victorian features of the home and some tricky natural lighting challenges, too.

Here’s why this palette works so beautifully:
Cohesion through undertones: We chose colours with warm, earthy undertones—taupes, beiges, teals, and greens—that echo the natural materials and textiles Amira loves. This creates a sense of flow, even as you move from one bold space to another.
Colour drenching for comfort: By wrapping entire rooms in a single colour (walls, ceilings, woodwork), we created a cocooning effect—especially important in small or awkwardly shaped spaces.
Light and mood: We paid close attention to how the light changes throughout the day. For example, the kitchen, which gets no direct sunlight, is painted in a warm taupe (Taupe 03) that glows even on grey days, making it feel nurturing rather than cold.
Red thread: We used soft pinks as a connecting thread throughout the house—sometimes in textiles, sometimes in paint—so every room feels related, but never repetitive.

Room-by-Room: The Details
The Living Room
Gone are the stark white walls! We wrapped this space in Teal 03, which feels like a big, cosy hug the moment you walk in. The deep teal is the perfect backdrop for Amira’s mustard and deep red cushions, and the whole room feels instantly welcoming—even on a rainy London afternoon.

The Kitchen
This room was tricky—no direct sunlight, lots of angles. We chose Taupe 03, which has gentle red and grey undertones. It’s warm, but not heavy, and it works beautifully with the marble worktops and the raw, bare plaster walls (which add so much texture and character).

The Dining Area
This is the heart of the home, where Amira loves to entertain. We painted the double doors to the garden in a vibrant green, drawing the eye outside and connecting the interior to the lush courtyard. The colour zoning here helps define each area, even though it’s all open plan.

The Guest Bedroom
We wanted this to feel like a retreat for visitors, so we chose a soft, earthy beige (Beige 01) with warm yellow undertones. It’s calm, welcoming, and makes everyone feel instantly at ease.

The Bathroom
This is where Amira’s love of vintage really shines—a reclaimed sink with pink undertones, Blue 03 on the walls, and deep blue tiles. It’s a nod to Victorian tradition, but the palette keeps it feeling fresh and uplifting.

The Loft Suite
Amira’s sanctuary! We repeated Taupe 03 here to create a sense of continuity, but in the abundant natural light, it takes on a whole new life—soft, airy, and serene. The woodwork is painted in a lighter Taupe 02 for contrast. The ensuite, inspired by Moroccan baths, uses brown tones and gold accents, tying back to the rest of the house while still feeling like a special escape.

Why This Palette Feels So Right
What I love most about Amira’s home is how every colour choice was made with intention. We thought about how she lives, what she loves, and how she wants to feel in each room. The palette is warm, layered, and full of personality—but it’s also practical, working with the light and the quirks of the space.

Your Turn: Be Inspired
If you take one thing away from Amira’s story, let it be this: your home should tell your story. Don’t be afraid to mix styles, play with colour, and showcase what you love. Here are a few questions to guide you:
What’s the purpose of each room? Is it for relaxing, entertaining, working, sleeping?
What’s staying in the room—floors, art, furniture? Let these inspire your palette.
Always, always sample in your own home. Colours change dramatically in different lights!
Make a plan or moodboard—it’ll save you time, money, and heartache.
Most importantly: decorate for YOU. If you could design your home like no one was watching, what would you do?
This is your home—make it a place you love.
